Choosing styling product for wavy, curly, or coily hair

Curl pattern is the first constraint. A slick pompadour fights tight coils. Some water-based pomades are sold for curly hair, but the quiz still warns when a style fights the pattern you reported.

Read the curl before you read the hold number

FindMyPomade stores curl pattern on the Andre Walker axis, from straight through wavy and curly to coily. Wikipedia describes that system as a family-and-tightness grid. It is a communication tool, not a laboratory assay, and the quiz uses plain-language photos rather than asking you to recite 3B.

Waves

Soft S-shapes can take a slick back or a side part if length allows. Too much grease will clump the wave into ropes.

Curls

American Crew says its water-based pomade works well for curly hair and offers a flexible alternative to styling gels. That is a manufacturer claim on one SKU. It does not mean every pomp will hold a 3C coil in humidity.

Coils

Tight coils and shrinkage hide true length. The ranking emits curl-pattern warnings when a chosen hairstyle fights the pattern you reported instead of inventing a miracle set. A sponge curl or twist entry in the catalog is often the honest style, not a forced pompadour.

Do not flatten a pattern you like

If you want definition, a cream or clay with lower shine usually shows curl better than a high-gloss grease. If you want to flatten waves on purpose, say so in the style picker and accept the wash and weight that come with it. The quiz is there so you do not have to pretend every texture wants the same tin.
